The recent rapid development of communication technology and increasing weather risks raise the requests for ‘Meteorological Information’. In accordance with such requirements, the quick and precise information service utilizing networks has been expected widely. Based on the Meteorological Service Law, we carry out by nations such the following tasks to satisfy such requirements.

1. Distributing data issued by Japan Meteorological Agency.
2. Conducting examination for Certified Weather Forecaster.
3. Promotion the use of meteorological information.

1. (1)Real-time Data Distribution Services (basically using dedicated line to weather information companies, or provide data to support research institutes via Internet)
   1. National/Worldwide Data : the data for global and national weather information includes weather observations, analysis and Numerical Weather Predictions through the facilities of JMBSC on-line data center in the JMA main office.
   2. Regional Data: the data for weather information of the relevant region through a JMBSC branch site in the local office of Japan Meteorological Agency.
   3. Weather Charts Fax service: Various types of weather charts and forecasts are provided through the Fax network.
   4. Meteor i-Net: Meteor I-Net is the internet data service to provide preliminary adjusted data, surface observation, upper air, AMeDAS data, global freak weather includes the El-Nino and so on.
   5. Seismic Data: The weekly recorded data of seismic information through a PC communication network.
2. (2)Archived products
   1. Various archived data stored in CD-Rom, FD-sheet, MO are available for everybody who wants to use. Typical products are as follows, some of them also contain English documents.

1. Software developments and system integrations related to the utilization of weather information/data
2. Researches to improve and develop Meteorological data utilization
3. Publishing materials of Meteorological applications and technical training
4. Design, Integration and consulting services to build the message switching systems

   1. basic course of general meteorological knowledge and application technology for general public and education
   2. short course of the state-of-the-art meteorological technology for operations in commercial companies
   3. advance course of meteorological technology for the higher level of meteorologists and forecasting specialists
2. (2)publishing the newsletters
   1. monthly newsletter “Weather Business Today”
   2. Technical information and specification sheets for JMA information
3. (3)membership system
   1. providing utilization and support system for the members to inform and diffuse the technical and meteorological knowledge
   2. Managing a partnership between commercial sector and public sector to be able to have opportunities involving new products for commercial markets to expand meteorological commercial fields.

1. (1) The copy service at JMA offices
   1. Supporting the inspection of JMA documents and providing copiers or printers at JMA authorities to handout JMA documents.
2. (2) Meteorological data shipping service
   1. Weather charts, archived papers and other various meteorological materials mostly owned by JMA are shipped/distributed by JMBAC via postal parcel services, Inter-net, fax.
   2. Redistributing meteorological data/information for domestic and overseas public organizations, laboratories.
3. Publishing various books related to meteorology
   1. Publishing original books and additional printing of JMA books and helping to produce meteorological materials.
4. (4) Conference, Events
   1. Conducting, consulting and planning for events, conferences and symposiums.
5. (5) Overseas survey
   1. Coordinating and planning for overseas survey related to meteorological business fields and events.
   2. Consultation service for imports/exports of meteorological studies/products.
6. (6) Supports for organizations
   1. Support the needs of various kinds of organizations who are interested in and affected by meteorological events.
7. (7) Collection and investigations meteorological data
   1. Collection, investigation and researches for meteorological data which exist in diverse field.
