Scope

The Fifth Convection-Permitting Modeling Workshop 2021 (CPM2021)
High-Resolution Climate Modeling and Hazards

We would like to invite you to attend The Fifth Convection-Permitting Modeling Workshop 2021 (CPM2021), which will be held on 7 (Tue) - 10 (Fri), and concluding on 14 (Tue) September 2021 (8 - 10, 14 September in Japan time). The main focus of the workshop is on simulating mesoscale processes and extreme events with CPMs at local to global scales and the use of high-resolution climate models for hazard and impact assessments. We will highlight recent advancements in CPM simulations and hazard modeling, ensemble and high-resolution climate modeling activities, discuss computational and data volume challenges, and facilitate interdisciplinary community interactions. The workshop will feature invited pre-recorded keynote presentations and Q&A discussion sessions as in the 2020 workshop. In addition, breakout discussion and interactive poster sessions will be added.

Main topics we will discuss in the Workshop

  • Advancements in high-resolution regional and global climate modeling
  • Computer science and next generation supercomputers
  • Toward global CPMs
  • Extreme events and hazards assessments
  • Ensemble based on high-resolution modeling

We encourage you to register for the workshop (free) and submit a poster for presentation. Hope to see you at the Virtual-Workshop!

To register, see the workshop website: https://www.pco-prime.com/tougou2021_ws/index.html

Program

Live Session Program

Contents

This workshop will be composed of three parts; 1) a live discussion after viewing the pre-recorded presentations, 2) a poster session using the Gather Town software, and 3) a Breakout discussion. Details of each session are as follows.

Live Session & Panel discussion

All participants can view pre-recorded presentations from mid-August and send questions after viewing via the web. Live sessions will be held on September 7-14 via zoom. After a short introduction of each speaker and the questions submitted on-line, there will be a live discussion regarding each invited talk.

Poster Session

We will have a virtual poster presentation at this workshop. All participants can view posters during September 7-14 (whole CPM-WS2021 duration). The software used to facilitate the interaction between the presenting authors and workshop attendees will be Gather Town. Further details will be announced in August.

Breakout discussion

Participants will be divided into small groups (6-8 people) using the zoom breakout functionality and discuss the specific themes related to session themes. These discussions will be summarized during the Live Session on the last day.
